The Floor

The floor of your home is what supports you daily. You depend on it to support you, your family, and your furnishings.

The floor of our dream home is THE WORD OF GOD.  In 2 Timothy 3:16-17 we are told the Word is profitable for instruction, wisdom, correction, and encouragement so that we can be equipped for all good works (to fulfill the purpose of our marriage).  Jesus used the Word in the wilderness to stand up against the devil and cause him to flee (Matt. 4:1-11).  In Ephesians 6, the Word of God is the only offensive weapon in our spiritual armor - the Sword of the Spirit.  All of these scriptures emphasize the power of the Word and its support to us in our relationship with the Lord.

We want the floor of our structural home to last.  The Word of God endures forever (1 Peter 1:25), thus a marriage standing on the Word of God can last forever.

If you have not yet read Psalm 119, I encourage you to do so this week.  The psalmist paints the beauty of the Word of God as he expresses his passion for the Word.

If you go into a home where the floors are dirty or worn out, some of the beauty of that home is taken away though the furnishings are exquisite.  Or perhaps the floors have been damaged and not repaired.   If you do not repair any damage to the floor, you will be stepping over holes.  Without repair, you will eventually find yourself falling thru.

As children of God we should long for and crave for God's Word.  This strong desire to feed & abide on His Word is a sure sign of spiritual growth. However, the hunger and thirst that the psalmist of Psalm 119 has for the Word of God can be destroyed through wrong attitudes toward others and cares and riches of the world. If this begins to happen, our floor is getting dirty or even damaged.

We must be alert!  Our marriage depends on it!  If we loss the hunger and thirst for the Word of God, in time we will loss the hunger and thirst for those things which stand upon it.

So is your marriage standing on the beautiful floor - The Word of God?  Then your marriage will reflect its beauty, grow spiritually and last forever.
