The Lot

Most everyone is in search of a dream home.  Your dream home will not be exactly like mine, due to different personalities, likes, and dislikes.  However, there are key aspects to every home.

The home we will be discussing how to build here is not a home built of wood but the love of God.  Psalm 127:1 states:  “Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it.”(NAS)  Only what is from God and has His blessing is truly valuable in life.  Thus, we should seek God's blessing and guidance in all things.

This dream home is an everlasting marriage.

It will take a strong determination for our dream home - an everlasting marriage - to be built and to endure the storms of life.

To help us build an everlasting marriage, we will examine the steps in building a concrete house.  Thus, let us look at the first step – Where do you build your house?  Before literally building a home, you want the best lot for your house to sit on.

In searching for the best lot, there a few questions to consider:

     * Is it affordable?

     * What is the quality of the subdivision/neighborhood it is in?

     * What is the soil condition on the lot?  Is it ideal for building?

In determining the best lot, let's look at Lot's, Abram's nephew, place of choice to pitch his tent. (Gen. 13, 14, 19)  We see how his choice in lots required too high a price and the quality of the subdivision was "wicked exceedingly" (Gen.13:13).

Thus, we need to make sure we examine all of the costs when deciding if our dream home is really affordable.  We must remember the choices we make now will affect not only us but also our descendants.

We also must look at the land's soil condition.  The best soil is one that is firm and drains well.  Thus, the best house site is on high ground with firm soil and drains well on all sides.

*The Best Lot for our dream home - an everlasting marriage - is one built where you are grounded in Jesus, committed and determined, and where forgiveness and forgetfulness (no longer acting on the hurt) are practiced daily.
